Hey guys.

I'm taking a short lunch break before I go back to work. I withdrew from my paralegal class for next semester. With everything that's going on, I figured that it wasn't entirely smart that I was taking a class once a week with no car and no way to get there. Plus as tired as I've been feeling lately, I just didn't think taking a class was all that wise.

I ran out of test strips! Grrr.... See, I've been having some problems testing my blood the first time. It usually takes me two goes. And I didn't realize that I only had two strips with me for this meter. And when I tried to test at 10:00, both strips gave me an error reading, for some reason. So I don't have any way to test my blood until my doctor's appointment today.

So, I want to share things I've learned in the last two weeks.

I've learned that I probably should have died. How's that for a bummer? A professor I work with had a friend who had bleeding in his brain, which caused a severe seizure. The friend fell into a coma and never woke up. And apparently the doctors told my parents that I'm incredibly lucky to be alive. Plus the fact that there is no mental damage. Wow. That kinda puts a damper on the day!

So, I've learned that I'm so grateful to be alive. Plus, in 4 weeks, I turn 30. 30 is way too young to die. I've barely experienced living yet.

I've learned that my on-line friends are coming through for me more than my real life friends. Annie read me the riot act the first time she had to drive me somewhere, even after I offered to pay for gas. This was last week, when I was still really coming to terms with everything, and the last thing I needed was her to lay down the law. She refused to take me to the bus stop today because her Mom is in town. She doesn't want to take me to the bus stop during her comp day. I've got news for her--if the weather's bad, I'm hauling her ass out of bed. She can go back to sleep after she drops me off, but I'm not walking 1/2 mile in a downpour or sleet or ice because she wants sleep. You know how inconvenient this is for me too? It's more inconvenient for me than it is for her. Know why? BECAUSE I CAN'T DRIVE!!!! I'M DEPENDENT ON OTHER PEOPLE, AND I HATE BEING DEPENDENT ON OTHERS!!!!!

I got a call from a church near my apartment. My hometown minister contacted them. Told them what happened to me. I told the minister that I think I've figured out the bus system, although it is still a pain. However, doctor's appointments are a problem. She said to let them know enough in advance, and we'll be able to work something out where they can take me to a doctor's appointment and back either to my apartment or to work.

I've also learned that the bus drivers are real nice. And so are the people who ride the bus. That still doesn't stop me from missing my car. From missing the independence that goes with walking out to my car, putting the key in the ignition, and going where I want to go, when I want to go! I mean, when I drove to work, I could leave at 7:40, and be there by 8:00, which is when work begins. Now, I have to be waiting at QuikTrip, which is 1/2 mile from my apartment complex by 7:00 in order to catch the JO to take me to the main hub in order to catch a bus by 7:22, which will drop me off 1/4 mile from work, which I have to walk. Exercise: good. When my foot feels better. And when the humidity isn't too terrible.

Oh, I've learned to keep two water bottles on me at all times. One in the morning, when I have to walk the 1/4 mile--and especially if I have to walk to QuikTrip. The other when I have to wait for an evening bus for 45 minutes, like I did last night.

I've learned that Florence knows nothing about what I do. So, I'm swamped and overwhelmed at work because she absolutely couldn't help me out. I was hoping to be able to completely catch up by tomorrow. It won't happen.

It sounds like I'm complaining, and maybe I'm ranting a little bit. But, really, my biggest issues are transportation, being a little at work, and really badly missing pop, because I can't have that anymore. But, this is what's going on with my life. I'm learning new things. I'm experiencing new things.

If I can get to stop feeling like I'm overly medicated (14 pills a day, y'all, plus an insulin shot), I get my blood sugar to stop going on a roller coaster ride in my body, I have no more seizures, and my blood gets thin enough that it won't clot inside my body--oh, and I lose weight, which is already happening--I think I got a new lease on life.

Just to let y'all know what's going on.

Oh, Kathleen called me a "temp" administrative assistant again. I'm hoping that once my contract from Accounting Principals (temp agency) expires, the word "temp" will not be part of my title any more. I'm getting new access to programs. I'm handling more responsibilities (if I can catch up!)
